MY STORY
My Name is GIULIA CARINI and I'm an Artist from Parma in Italy.
After getting my Masters Degree in English Language and Literature at Parma University and after different jobs, I finally decided to follow my passion for colours.
I've always been attracted to art and paints since I was a child but then life led me to a different direction.
this strong passion was waiting to emerge sooner or later and it did when I decided to attend my first Makeup School in Paris.

In these last years My creative journey led me into Abstract painting, through which I have been exploring the intersection between raw energy, natural philosophy, and gestural expressionism. My practice centers on creating dynamic, intuitive compositions that bridge Western Abstract Expressionism with Asian calligraphic traditions.
Working primarily with a rich combination of acrylics, deep black inks, and raw dry pigments, I employ a wide variety of specialized brushes to achieve a diverse rhythm of textures—ranging from sweeping, luminous fields of color to bold, decisive marks. A fundamental element of my artistic identity lies in my choice of surface:
I work on rare, handcrafted papers that I found during my travels across Japan, China, Taiwan, and South Korea. Each unique sheet of paper, with its tactile organic texture and history, serves me as an active participant in the creation of my artworks.
My artistic evolution took a pivotal turn during my study in Osaka, Japan, where I trained in traditional calligraphic arts under Master Baikei Uehira. Rather than adopting formal characters, I transformed the discipline, force, and breathwork of traditional calligraphy into a purely abstract visual language. Influenced by the physical energy of Willem de Kooning and the spontaneous philosophy of the Gutai movement, my goal is to evoke the unseen rhythms of the Cosmos and the deep, intrinsic bond between humanity and nature.
INSPIRATION
During my travels in Japan, I was deeply moved by the extraordinary artworks of Shozo Shimamoto and his "Bottle Crash" technique, where the final outcome is entirely unforeseen. That encounter taught me to embrace spontaneity and psychological freedom, which I now translate through my own vision using acrylics. Moving away from controlled forms, I work with abstract, intuitive brushstrokes—allowing the acrylic paint to layer, blend, and react organically on the surface. The rich opacity, texture, and fluidity of acrylics create a magical interplay of contrasts: light and dark, soft and hard edges, smooth layers and bold, expressive textures.
My process bridges the raw energy of American Abstract Expressionism with the refined spirit of Eastern calligraphy. The powerful gesture and dynamic tension of Willem de Kooning inform the movement of my colorful brushwork, which then seamlessly flows into bold, black ink marks. Rather than imitating traditional script, I reinterpreted the art of master calligraphers like Morita Shiryu and Hiroko Nakajima into a purely abstract visual language—capturing the rhythm, force, and cadence of their strokes.
To give physical depth and spirit to this dialog, I work on rare, handpicked paper discovered during my travels across Japan, China, Taiwan, and South Korea. Each delicate sheet carries its own texture, soul, and history, anchoring the vibrant paint and deep ink to a tactile, precious surface.
Underpinning all of this is my fascination with Buddhist and Zen aesthetic principles regarding the relationship between art and nature. According to this philosophy, the artist must observe nature deeply to grasp its true ESSENCE, ultimately achieving a state of UNITY between humanity and the natural world.
Nature and its breathtaking colors are my constant guide on this journey. These rich, vibrant colors carry a profound energy that binds human beings to the Cosmos. The shades of the sky, the ocean, and the earth serve as the ultimate bridge—connecting me, the artwork, and the viewer to nature itself.
